The fact that this photograph is preserved in the National Archives makes it historically significant, regardless of what the object actually was. Project Blue Book collected and investigated UFO sightings between 1947 and 1969, and many photographs and case files are now publicly available for research.

That said, without multiple sensor confirmations or additional data, a single photograph alone isn’t enough to determine origin. Still, it’s an important piece of documented history.
